Universal language aside, music has an incomprehensible way of inhabiting inside us. I was introduced to Dr. Oliver Sacks via my favorite radio program Radiolab last year.  He was interviewed in two of its episodes Memory and Forgetting [segment: Clive], and Pop Music [segment: Earworms]

Strongly urge you to check out those two programs, at least those segments. Picked up Sacks’s book not long after and I was inseparable from it till I finished. To get an idea of what to expect in the book, check out this New Yorker piece from 2007.

I guess a review by me would’ve been nice but I’m guessing ‘wrong’ on this idea. Instead, watch this segment on ‘Amusia‘ by Dr. Sacks and visit the website. You can buy the book, if you wish, here.

Thanks for the pointer. I’d read a lot about perfect pitch and tone deafness (opposite ends of the scale), but Dr Sacks has a really interesting take on it all.
