If you’ve seen Woody Allen’s ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona‘ chances are you’ve heard Stephane Wrembel’s ‘Big Brother,’ from his Barbes Brooklyn album.
But to really appreciate Stephane’s music, you have to see him play live. It’s then you get to see what he does to the guitar, with the guitar, for the guitar. I’ve had a chance to interview Stephane couple of months ago and then follow up by attending a gig at Barbes. I won’t get into his background because we cover that in the interview (2nd video, below).
However, if you two have not been introduced, there’s no better way to make the intro than let you watch this first video I shot in Barbes. If you’re in NYC, make sure you go and see him play because it will be worth your while. Trust me.
If not me, then trust the late Les Paul because you had better be good to get invited to jam with the father of electric guitar.
Stephane teaches when he’s not playing or recording (he has a book out). Guitar players embarking on Gypsy Jazz guitar will find this page – with backing rhythm tracks galore - drool inducing.
