Back in October of 2009, I had the great honor of sitting with the great Carlos Barbosa-Lima, considered one of the foremost interpreters of classical and Brasilian music, for a 2-hr interview. He generously shared with me stories, anecdotes, lessons, and advice; to be able to document that was a privilege.
A big thank you to Zoho Music and The New York Classical Guitar Society for arranging this interview and making me feel welcome!
Part One: Behind the scenes mini-doc. Childhood & Early Years. Also featuring Lawrence Del Casale.
Part Two: Touring, lessons with Segovia, Bonfa, Savio, and thoughts on Merengue, his latest recording.
Part Three: On technique, phrasing, arranging, and practice. Tips & advice on performance (jam packed w/ examples).
Don’t miss the next two episodes. Subscribe to blog or follow me on Twitter.
Carlos Barbosa-Lima will be playing at Carnegie Hall on April 24th, in celebration of his 50th recording.
