Gotham Rocks: August

I’ll let myself rant just a little re: lighting in clubs. Bad lighting kills. That blinding red light is the biggest killer. Is it supposed to make performers look better, the club cooler, or what? Lighting is an art. Clubs spend money on sound (you wish) on decor, on fancy furniture but won’t spend a dime on good sound and lighting person. Why is that? Now if it were a dance club, go ahead multi-color your lighting system and strobe the fuck out of the place. But when it comes to concerts, take a little time to invest in it or give the organizers or bands an option to patch their own.

Because, in the end, fellas, good lighting leads way to good photo opportunities, that in turn get promoted by fans because they come out with cameras and want to share. Make an event point and shoot or cell phone camera friendly. And guess what, more pictures there are of other people’s favorite bands in your club, more other people will know of your club. This Crash Mansion is a lot better when it comes to sound and lighting (the last Gotham Rocks is an example), but on this one, it killed it with the (bad) red light.

Most of you might think that was a whole lotta yapping about lighting when that matters is music. Sure, tell yourself that.
