Am happy to share this short preview of a new series I’m starting called @ the rehearsals. I’ve had the good fortune to record one with Kenny Forsh & K-Man’s Crew in February (still editing). The guys from Jones Street Station invited me to do a short profile on them at their rehearsal space, as I was for K-Man’s Crew. Rehearsal space is sacred ground where bands get down to work, share new ideas, and re-work material. One of the best ways to understand a band, I think, is to see how they rehearse and how they are together in that space. Not too many groups will let you attend, so it has been an honor on both occasions.
The Jones Street Station rehearsal marks (pun intended) the introduction of my Canon 5D Mark II. It was a challenge just to get comfortable shooting video with it. Sort of like learning to drive while doing a cross country. Sort of. I’m a big fan of documentaries, esp. music documentaries like I’m Trying to Break Your Heart with Wilco, Meeting People is Easy with Radiohead, or Funky Monks with Red Hot Chili Peppers, just from the top of my head. The series is my own way of bringing together two of three things I love, film making and music.
I’m editing this still and don’t have an exact date of completion yet. But wanted to share some clips to give you an idea what it is. Video shot with a Canon 24-70mm L f/2.8.
