An interview by Derek Richardson of Acoustic Guitar Magazine. When Derek asked:
To what degree do you write with instrumentation in mind?
HIATT I’ve always written from a guitar chord-structure-slash-groove-slash-rhythmic pattern or melody. And then the lyric springs out of that. The lyric and the story almost always come out of the music. All I really wanted to do on this record was to feature the acoustic guitar and the guy that was singing, which happened to be me, and then just feature the feel and the rhythm and keep the rest of it pretty simple. I think that’s pretty much what we did.
